Author Interview with Heather Frost + GIVEAWAY

Welcome to Leafy Books, I'm really happy that I have a chance to do an interview with you. Please tell us a little bit about yourself Heather.

Thanks! I'm really excited to be here today. A bit about me, huh? Well, I'm 21 years old, and I recently graduated from Snow College. I'm now working toward my Bachelor's degree at Utah State University, majoring in English. I was born with a very active imagination which I used to entertain myself and my 9 siblings when they were bored. I've lived in Utah all my life, even though I've moved around a bit over the years. I love ice cream, and a good story.

Seers is my first published novel, though I've been telling stories since I first learned to speak.

Do you have anything in common with your main character, Kate?

Kate and I are quite different from each other. If I'd been put into the same situations, I know I would have handled things differently. That said, we have some underlying similarities. Kate is extremely family oriented, and that's definitely one of my character traits. Kate also has some hard trials to face, and though she's certainly struggling she's able to be strong for those around her. In the end, she surprises herself with her ability to adjust. I've dealt with some hard losses myself, and though our circumstances aren't really all that similar—I'm definitely not psychic!—I ended up surprising myself as well. And we both like tacos. A lot.

How do you assess the cover of Seers? Do you think that a beautiful cover is important for a book and its author?

I think the cover for Seers is gorgeous. It's eye-catching, mysterious, and just down-right beautiful. I love how the eyes figure so prominently in the picture; with a title like Seers, it only makes sense to have eyes front and center. And I think a beautiful cover is invaluable to both the book and the author. Even though it's a horrible habit to judge a book by its cover, first impressions are super important. The cover is often the first glimpse of a story a person gets, and if the cover isn't intriguing, a person is less likely to investigate further. Luckily, Seers had some very talented support in the cover design department.

Do you have your favorite place for writing or any special writing ritual?

It seems a little boring to admit, but I love writing at my desk. Sitting in the corner, sort of cut off from the rest of the house . . . It's a place I can really immerse myself in my writing and my characters. I do like plucking up a notebook and finding a shady place out of doors to scribble down some notes, but any serious writing I do is done in my room. And whenever I do write, I need to have music playing. It helps me concentrate, and get into the right frame of mind for the story.

And do you have your favorite place for reading?

Basically, anywhere semi-quiet. I love reading on my bed—it's the ultimate sanctuary. But comfy chairs are also great to curl up in.

Do you prefer printed copies of books or ebooks?

I definitely prefer reading an actual paper book. But since I own an e reader . . . there's something to be said for convenience, too.

What is your favorite love story, or stories?

I really love The Notebook, by Nicholas Sparks. That book is just so real and poignant. It moves me every time I pick it up. I love Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Bronte. It's classic and powerful, and so easy to relate to Jane. I really enjoyed The Hourglass Door trilogy, by Lisa Mangum. And even though I wanted more of the book dedicated to their relationship, I have to say I liked the Alyss and Dodge love story from The Looking Glass Wars trilogy, by Frank Beddor.

And my last question, what can we see from you in the future?

I'm working on polishing up the sequel to Seers right now (entitled “Demons”), and I'm balancing a couple other projects as well. Demons continues where Seers left off, and it should be out next year. You can visit my website www.HeatherFrost.com to stay updated.

Thank you Heather for answering my questions. I am really looking forward to reading and reviewing your another books.

Thanks for your time and talents!

This interview and giveaway is part of Seers Virtual Book Tour.

About the book Seers:

When Kate Bennett survived the car accident that claimed her parents' lives, she knew her world would be forever changed. But her life is more dramatically altered than she first realized. Not only is she able to see “mood auras” on the people around her, she's even started seeing invisible people with no colors at all. And no matter how attractive the new addition to her American Lit class is, Kate sees what no one else can—the dangerous truths this mysterious man threatens to pour into her life.

Patrick O'Donnell was killed in the Irish Revolution in 1798. He's here now to try and keep Kate alive, and stop her life from spinning out of control. The one thing he's not going to do is fall in love with her. But plans change, especially when Demons are involved . . .

Kate is about to enter the world of Seers; where immortals are at war with each other, and unfortunate mortals like Kate are in over their heads.

SEERS is coming out on October 8, 2011.

And now is GIVEAWAY TIME! Thanks to Cedar Fort and Heather Frost who kindly offered one ARC of Seers to give away! Enter and fill Rafflecopter form.

I've seen Seers on a couple of blogs recently and I must admit - the way it sounds definitely makes me want to read it asap. I love the cover, love the colors and the author seems like such a nice and friendly person (I love Bronte and Sparks, too!).
Glad to hear that Heather is already working hard on the sequel to Seers = I have a feeling I will really like this book and I really hate waiting for the next part!

I am definitely a hardback girl myself. I own a Nook, but nothing compares to cracking open the spine of a brand new book and feeling the parchment in your hands as you turn the pages.

Great giveaway, Thanks!

Sounds like an amazing novel. I cannot wait to get my hands on Seers. If it has some form of ghosts or the past and future connecting, I'm in.

I really like Nicholas Sparks' stories too, but my favorite of his is Dear John. I'll always remember that ending because it touched my heart so deeply. Would love to read Seers!
